Jack Grealish has warned Manchester City's rivals their team spirit can carry Pep Guardiola's side to even more success this season.

Guardiola's players underlined their status as the best team in the world with last season's historic Treble haul of the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League. They followed that up by winning the UEFA Super Cup and have the chance to confirm their standing as the best side on the planet in next month's FIFA Club World Cup.

City sealed their place in the last 16 of the Champions League with two games to spare, courtesy of Tuesday's comfortable 3-0 win over Young Boys at the Etihad Stadium. England winger Grealish set up Phil Foden for City's second goal and afterwards praised Guardiola and said the bond and unity among his players is even stronger than last season.

"Guardiola gives us so much," said Grealish. "In my opinion he’s the best manager in the world. He’s shown that over the years. You can have the best manager in the world, but you also need the team and dressing room to do that.

"We have a brilliant team, on the pitch and also off the pitch, we have a team that is so close. We love being with each other and we love playing with each other and that shows on the pitch.

"Before the game, the manager said to me that when we have the ball, we normally go from me to [Mateo] Kovacic to Rodri. But he said when they have the five at the back, hit it to the other side straight away. Instead of going to each player because that takes longer. I got it to Phil straight away to get at the defender one on one and that’s what he did.

"I know what I bring to the team aside from goals and assists. Every attacking player wants to score more. We won 3-0, but on another day we could have got five or six."

Grealish said it was important for City to secure their place in the knockout stage as quickly as possible, with big league games coming up against Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham and Aston Villa. "That’s what we wanted to do," said Grealish.

"Every year we have so many games as a team. Most of the time we’re in most competitions, so to qualify with two games to spare, that’s what we wanted to do, that was our aim."

Guardiola echoed Grealish about the camaraderie among his group of players and hailed the current squad as one of the best he has had in his seven years at City. "Those not in the team are the best I remember for many years," said Guardiola.

"For many years, I've had incredibly lovely people with great support. I understand the sadness when they don't play, but it is really good, a joy to be their manager."
