More details on Rockstar’s long-awaited sequel to uber hit GTA 5 could be unleashed this week, according to a report from Bloomberg.

Update: It's official! Rockstar Games' boss, Sam Houser, has confirmed the GTA 6 trailer release date to coincide with the company's 25th anniversary next month.

Original story:GTA 6 is easily one of the most eagerly anticipated titles of all time – despite details still being relatively scarce. A fact only made stronger by how silent and secretive developer Rockstar Games is known for being. Well, said silence might finally be about to end this week, as a reliable report suggests that GTA 6 could finally be revealed any moment now – well over 10 years since GTA 5 first launched on PS3 and Xbox 360.

The report in question comes from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier who, in addition to claiming that an official GTA 6 reveal could arrive before the end of the later this week, suggests that Rockstar and parent company Take-Two Interactive have plans to release a trailer in December. This will apparently be done to celebrate Rockstar’s 25th anniversary, which falls next month.

Of course, we already have some idea of what GTA 6 will look and play like thanks to a series of video clips and data files that leaked online last year. Rockstar then released a statement via a Twitter post relaying its disappointment, and adding that it would “properly introduce [players] to this next game when it is ready”. That time is apparently now just around the corner. If Rockstar or Take-Two Interactive do announce GTA 6 in an official capacity this week, we’ll be sure to let you know.

Grand plan

According to the report, the GTA 6 announcement could happen as early as today, during Rockstar Games' parent company, Take-Two Interactive's earnings call. The Q2 2024 earnings call is scheduled for later today at 9.30pm GMT / 4pm EST / 1pm PST so watch your socials and prepare for them to blow up. If nothing happens today, we'll be keeping an eye on Rockstar's social accounts this week more than usual.

Ever since early footage leaked online last year (and even well before) players the world over have been fervent about when the GTA 6 announcement would be coming. Admittedly, it’s been a while since Rockstar’s last full release – Red Dead Redemption 2 – launched back in 2018, with support for its online portion quickly dying on the vine and failing to reach GTA Online’s continued popularity.

In terms of the potential trailer announcement, there is something rather perfect about it coming in December to mark Rockstar’s 25th anniversary. It’ll likely show off the all but confirmed returning location of Vice City (now expanded for current-gen consoles), the two new playable characters (one of which is female), as well as a mild sense of the story. Debut trailers for GTA titles tend to be more evocative than any type of deep-dive, but we’ll find out very soon according to the Bloomberg report.
