If your Android phone is on this list you need to install a critical new update
Android users are being urged to install a major system software update that fixes some critical security issues on their phones.
Google has just rolled out a big security update for Pixel smartphones running Android 14, which was launched only last month.
The update patches a total of 17 security problems within Android 14, which Google has classified as either high priority or 'critical'.

The tech giant is now urging users of these smartphones to keep an eye on their notifications, as the security update is rolled out worldwide.
Samsung Galaxy S23 we got hands-on with the new Samsung S23 Ultra, 23+ and S23In the release notes for the update, Google wrote: "Exploitation for many issues on Android is made more difficult by enhancements in newer versions of the Android platform. We encourage all users to update to the latest version of Android where possible."
Anyone who owns a device from the Pixel 4a onwards is eligible for the update. That includes:
- Pixel 4a
- Pixel 5
- Pixel 6
- Pixel 6 Pro
- Pixel 6a
- Pixel 7
- Pixel 7 Pro
- Pixel 7a
- Pixel Fold
- Pixel Tablet
- Pixel 8
- Pixel 8 Pro
Typically, Android smartphones will send you a notification instructing you to download and install a new software update, and Pixel devices are no different.
However, it's easy to miss these notifications. To check for a software update manually, just open your Settings app, scroll down to 'System', and then look for System Update. Follow the instructions onscreen to find out if your device is eligible for it yet.
It's unclear whether other Android devices, such as Samsung phones, will receive similar updates but its worth keeping an eye on for now.
