Gavin and Stacey writers James Corden and Ruth Jones have been spotted together – much to the huge delight of fans of the hit comedy series, who have been begging for another episode.

James, who starred as Smithy in the series, and Ruth, who portrayed fan-favourite Nessa, were seen smiling and chatting together while out for a walk around Soho, London.

Comedian James, who has recently moved back to the UK after cracking America by hosting The Late Late Show, sported a purple jumper with a lion motif on the front along with a pair of jeans, Nike trainers and sunglasses.

The beloved Smithy star, 45, was seen with his arm around his comedy co-writer Ruth as they smiled and chatted while walking in Central London. Ruth, 57, wore a funnel neck grey sweatshirt along with a pair of navy tracksuit bottoms and grey trainers.

Actress and comedian Ruth added a pair of earrings to her outfit and tied her blonde dyed locks back into a ponytail. The pair were clearly in high spirits as the pair were seen putting their arms around one another and smiling and laughing while out and about in the capital.

The sighting of the pair comes after fans have been begging for the writers and stars of the hit series Gavin and Stacey was left on a cliffhanger, following the comedy's Christmas special which aired in 2019. In the final scene of the festive special, which caught up with the unconventional family 10 years on, saw Nessa confess her love for Smithy and propose to him outside Gwen's house.

However, fans never got to find out if Smithy accepted as the episode cut to credits before viewers saw his reply. Ever since the epic reunion aired, fans have been begging for another offering of the comedy – or a fourth series.

However, Gavin and Stacey stars Larry Lamb and Alison Steadman, who play Gavin's parents Mick and Pam Shipman, have admitted they like the idea of a one-off special but aren't keen on creating another whole series.

Actress Alison said: "I’d like to do another, but I don’t know if I could do seven episodes. A special would be great fun and it wouldn’t be too draining and exhausting. The Christmas special cliffhanger ending was brilliant. I was really touched and moved by it."

Meanwhile, Larry added: "It’s like getting the family together again, so absolutely yes to another one. But a one-hour special, which is three weeks of really intense work, that will do me."

Joanna Page, who plays Stacey in the show, has also backed the idea of another Christmas special as she said: "After filming I did think, there is another one, there’s got to be another one. We’ve got to find out what Smithy says."

While both fans and the show's stars are behind the idea of another festive special, writer James didn't seem as keen on the idea as he previously told Vernon Kay on BBC Radio 2: "If – IF – that ever happens, but I do think it’s a big 'if', I don’t think it’s a 'when'."
