John Lewis release teaser ahead of highly-anticipated Christmas advert
John Lewis has released a teaser for this year's highly-anticipated Christmas advert ahead of the full commercial's release and confirmed the date fans will finally get to see the whole thing.
The department store shared the first look of this year's advert and revealed the full ad will be available to watch from November 9. Meanwhile a number of shops have already released their Christmas ads for the year including Sainsbury's, which saw Rick Astley steal the show, and Marks and Spencer, which has received backlash over part of its campaign.
This year's advert appears to be set to star a young boy and a 'Grown Your Own Perfect Christmas Tree' kit. In the clip, which John Lewis shared on their Instagram page, a young boy dressed in a blue plaid shirt with a knitted blue jumper underneath is seen looking down at a box in his hands, as he appears to be at a market or car boot sale. He turns to one said and says: "Gran, can I have this?"
He then looks forward and shows the box to the camera, which zooms in. The front of the box has the words "Grown Your Own Perfect Christmas Tree" etched on the front while a vintage cartoon of a group of children are seen looking up in the air in awe of the text.
The bottom of the box has the words "fast growing" written on and, in the ad, it slides down to reveal a single, large seed placed on top of a satin red cushion, which fills the box. The ad then cuts to the John Lewis logo with the date '9 November' written underneath, revealing the full commercial will be released in just two days time. Right at the bottom is the hashtag '#TraditionsGrow', giving a hint to the theme of this year's highly-anticipated festive mini-movie.
John Lewis shoppers go wild for 'amazing quality' 'super stroller' that's £51As the department store posted the clip on its Instagram page, they added in the caption: "Christmas begins 9 November #TraditionsGrow". And fans were quick to react with excitement in the comments section of the post.
One penned: "Ooh this looks promising" followed by a heart eye emoji while another said: "Can’t wait to see it".
A third added: "9th November is a gooooood day!" And a fourth confessed: "I already know this is going to get me" followed by two crying emojis.
Meanwhile, one user joked about the boys' lack of manners in the short clip as the wrote: "Any other Mums out there watch this and think…. please?!"
John Lewis has become popular for their emotive and engaging festive adverts over the years with some favourites including 2015's advert titled The Man on the Moon – which featured a little girl who noticed a man was living alone on the moon – The Bear and the Hare – which told the story of a friendship between the two animals – and Buster the Boxer – which featured a cheeky boxer dog enjoying a bounce on his owner's trampoline.
Last year, the company released a commercial called The Beginner, which followed a dad trying to learn how to skateboard to bond with a girl in the care system – who was joining his family for Christmas.
