Harry Kane has broken Alan Shearer's record for the most goals in 300 Premier League matches after his brace helped Tottenham to a thumping 4-0 win at Crystal Palace.

After what was a drab first-half at Selhurst Park, Kane gave Spurs the lead in the 48th minute with a terrific header at the back post following Ivan Perisic's looping cross. The England international then completed his quick-fire double as he fired the ball into the corner from inside the box.

It was an instinctive finish from Kane, who was superb on the night and added an assist to that performance as he set-up Heung min-Son after Matt Doherty netted Spurs' third. Antonio Conte's men came close to adding a fifth late on but they settled for a four-goal win as they closed the gap on fourth-place Manchester United to two points.

However, Kane will no doubt grab the headlines after he made his 300th Premier League appearance and marked it by breaking Shearer's record for the most goals in that time. Shearer netted 196 goals during that timeframe, but Kane nipped ahead of him by notching his 197th and 198th to top that list.

It isn't the only Premier League record the forward smashed in the win in South London, as that game made it 34 times in which both Kane and Son them have found the back of the net in the same match. Kane and the former Bayer Leverkusen winger have also now combined for 44 goals - the most in Premier League history.

Kane's brace has taken him within two of Jimmy Greaves' all-time Tottenham record, with Kane now on 264 for Spurs, having scored his first back in 2013. However, speaking about that feat after the game, Kane admitted he doesn't think too much about the records ahead of him.

Kane told Sky Sports: "I try not to think about them, I'm one of them that if you think too much, it can have the opposite effect. Of course I know it's close but I've got to keep on doing what I'm doing for the team, working hard and hopefully the goals will come. Big win today."

Meanwhile, ex-Spurs midfielder Jamie Redknapp heaped praise on Kane's performance against Palace as the striker moved on to 15 Premier League goals this season. Only Erling Haaland has scored more goals than Kane, with Aleksandar Mitrovic and Ivan Toney just behind.

Redknapp said: "He was just incredible, not just his goals but his all-round play, he held it up, brought others into play. His tough was exquisite, it was a masterclass from him."
