Cops scramble to train tracks after one dies in 'serious incident' in Wakefield

A person has died following an incident on railway tracks in Yorkshire this morning.

Emergency services including officers from British Transport Police (BTP) rushed to railway tracks in the Normanton area of Wakefield at 10.10am following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended the incident but the person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious, the police said.

Eyewitnesses said they saw a number of vehicles including at three ambulances, fire engines and a large police response at the scene. Roads were closed and motorists were urged to avoid the area.

BTP said in a statement shared with The Mirror: "Officers of British Transport Police were called to the railway lines in the Normanton area of Wakefield at 10:10 this morning following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended however sadly a person has been pronounced dead at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
