Krishnan Guru-Murthy, Channel 4 News anchor, has surprised and delighted viewers of Strictly Come Dancing with his impressive performances and charming personality. Despite his long-standing career as a journalist, Krishnan has been able to wow audiences with his weekly performances alongside his talented partner, Lauren Oakley, making him a hot contender for the coveted title.

In week six of the competition, Krishnan surprised the judges with his rendition of the Viennese Waltz to Seal's Kiss from a Rose, which came with a Jekyll and Hyde twist. The performance was a hit with the audience, but the judges had mixed reviews. Anton Du Beke commented that it was "enjoyable, perfect reverse turn, footwork super, but the frame needs firming up too floppy, your right arm is a problem".

However Craig Revel Horwood said it was "chunky and too placed, so it lacked flow, but I did not recognize you, darling, loved the characterisation". Motsi Mabuse added: "You've improved so much in control and delivery, but you adjusted yourself in the transitions". Shirley Ballas concluded: "Good attempt, but you got stuck in the turns, lacked flow, and finished with your hands". Despite the mixed feedback, Krishnan's fans are rooting for him, and he's becoming a fan favourite.

But it seems not everyone in his family is thrilled about his new hobby. The veteran journalist has revealed that he turned down the opportunity to star on the show several times but finally accepted, much to the delight of his wife, Lisa Guru-Murthy. Krishnan tied the knot with Lisa in 2005, and the couple now share two children - a son and a daughter. However, it looks like their son, who is now 18, is not too keen on seeing his dad in a dancing outfit on national television.

Krishnan revealed that his son was "appalled and embarrassed" by the thought of his dad straying away from his usual news reading job. In fact, his son didn't even show up to support him in person during his first live performance. Krishnan also said that his son wasn't showing "any great enthusiasm" to come and watch him, but he didn't seem too bothered by it.

Despite his son's reservations, Krishnan has been working hard to impress the judges and the audience. His wife, on the other hand, is thrilled to see him taking on a new challenge and shining on the dance floor. Krishnan has dismissed the infamous Strictly curse, saying that his wife isn't worried in the slightest about her husband succumbing to it. He went on to say that his wife is "really relaxed" and that the Strictly curse is all nonsense, especially for people of his age.

He added: "I'm not really across the gossip of 'Strictly' years gone past, but I honestly don't think the curse is something anyone needs to worry about when it comes to me. I'm very happily married and old enough to be the father of most of the dancers.” Krishnan has impressed the judges and the audience with his energetic performances, and fans are hoping that he will continue to shine on the dance floor.

Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday from 6.20pm on BBC One.
