Arsenal suffered just their second defeat of the season in their last outing, which came in the form of a 3-1 loss at West Ham in the Carabao Cup fourth round.
It was by some distance the Gunners' worst display of the campaign so far and hardly the ideal preparation for Saturday night's face-off with Newcastle at St. James' Park. The Magpies are flying high at the moment, having just battered Manchester United on their own patch on Wednesday and will be out to inflict a similar result on Arsenal.

"I like always to say what I feel, really," Wenger said on beIN Sports. "Deeply, I believe will be one of the contenders for the league.
"They bought James Maddison, who is a great player. He is that link from low midfield to high midfield and added some technical creativity to the team. They bought Van de Ven, who I find absolutely exceptional.
"They had weaknesses there and last season [Hugo] Lloris had not the best of seasons as well. And the movement from Son into the middle looks very good."

"But before they can express their individuality at a very high level, their association needs to be good. Then there is the one at Arsenal too [Saliba] – he hasn't yet had the game time to adapt to that necessary association.
"I don't believe his individual qualities to be above average. He's at a very, very high level but not extraordinary. So before absorbing the international level, he needs to acclimatise to those associations."
