Dominic Cummings has mocked Nadine Dorries over claims that he secretly worked to topple Boris Johnson during his time in No10. The former Downing Street adviser jokingly praised the ex-Cabinet Minister for uncovering the plot to bring down her hero.

“She’s right, there was giant conspiracy including MI6, the CIA and, most crucially, the KGB special operations department,” he wrote on X. “It’s a tribute to Nadine she has figured this out.”

Mr Cummings tweeted his comments after a journalist asked him for his response to allegations in Ms Dorries’ book that he worked with others including Michael Gove “to topple Boris Johnson as soon as he had won the [2019] election by undermining him and placing negative (and false) stories about him.”

Mr Johnson appointed Mr Cummings as his senior adviser when he became PM in July 2019. He helped him secure an 80-seat majority in the election later that year, but the pair later fell out and he quit his role in November 2020.

The row comes after Ms Dorries claimed there is a Tory fixer in No10 who chopped a former girlfriend’s pet rabbit into four pieces and nailed it to her family’s front door. She said the shadowy figure known as “Dr No” had also tried to set fire to a house while children were sleeping inside.

In her new book, she has vowed to expose the “deeply entrenched degree of corruption” that “lies at the heart of the Conservative Party” and Downing Street. Ms Dorries stepped down as an MP in August after she failed to get a peerage in Mr Johnson ’s resignation honours.

Last night she claimed she had been told she could be blacklisted from ever entering the Lords after she failed to allow the Cabinet Office to see a copy of her book before it was published. Under the ministerial code, former ministers intending to publish their memoirs are required to submit a draft in advance so it can be vetted for confidential information or material that could risk national security.

In a tweet, Ms Dorries wrote: “A hard rain is coming to those who have distorted our democracy. No nomination, no public appointment is as important to me as exposing the poison which lies at the heart of the Conservative Party and No10.”

The ex-minister who was Mr Johnson’s biggest cheerleader is understood to have identified four figures who she blames for him leaving No10. He announced he was stepping down as PM last July after he was accused of not telling the truth about sex pest allegations made against one of his ministers.
