Stephen Fry was all smiles as he was pictured walking with a cane over a month after falling off stage and breaking his leg during an appearance at a festival.

The 66-year-old comedian, actor and broadcaster was speaking at the CogX Festival at the O2 in London in September when he plunged off a six foot platform. The British icon had finished his speech and was exiting the stage when he fell from the edge of the floor.

Stephen recently revealed he suffered painful injuries to his rib, pelvis and leg and had to leave the venue in a wheelchair following his horror accident. He was taken to hospital to be treated for his broken bones. And now, the star was seen making his first public appearance since the terrifying fall.

The star smiled at the cameras as he arrived for Zoe Ball's Friends Round Friday! breakfast show using a walking stick. He looked at ease as he rocked smart navy trousers, a pink button-up shirt that he covered up with a black sweater and a warm black overcoat. He made sure to add a poppy pin to complete his outfit.

For maximum comfort, Stephen wore black trainers. Earlier this week, Stephen opened up about recovering from the injuries he sustained from the horror fall. He made an appearance at the Chris Evans Breakfast Show on November 2 to discuss his new book, Mythos: The Illustrated Story.

Speaking to Chris, he said: "I am walking with a cane at the moment, because six weeks ago, to the very day, I delivered a lecture at the O2 Arena in Greenwich for part of CogX, which is a sort of festival of ideas, you might say. And I was giving a lecture on AI, a subject which has long absorbed my interest since the 70s.

"And I took a bow at the end and walked off stage. I don't know why, I just walked off to the right, having come on from the left! I didn't know, as I fiddled with the black curtain, that there was a six-foot drop onto concrete. So I broke my leg in two places, my pelvis in many places and a bunch of ribs. So, this is my first sort of outing in the world really.”

He added that he initially refused to take the painkillers doctors gave him after finding out it was the highly addictive oxycontin pills. However, the orthopaedic consultant told him the pill wasn't to make his life easier but to make him 'get better quicker'.

"'Without them, you're in so much pain, you won't move at all. You'll be lying on your back, stuck there. And with them, it'll hurt a bit, but we'll get you on your feet in a day, and we'll get the two physio guys with their arms around you and we'll walk you up and down, and your muscles will start working'," he recalled the doctor telling him.

He also added: “I've been off them now for several weeks, but I did obey them and take them. They very kindly weaned me with smaller and smaller doses.”
