Ronnie O’Sullivan documentary heading to Prime Video from producer David Beckham
Amazon Prime Video has announced a new documentary exploring the life and career of top snooker player Ronnie O’Sullivan. Ronnie O’Sullivan: The Edge of Everything is a feature-length film following the world number one as he faces personal challenges and the pressures of success.
The film will debut in a one-night-live premiere screening before heading to Prime Video later this month. It comes from David Beckham’s production company Studio 99 and follows its hit Netflix documentary that explores the life and career of the former England captain.
In 2021, O’Sullivan made the decision to allow total access to his life for the first time ever, at a moment when he was beginning to consider a world beyond snooker, opening the doors to his personal life and a remarkable cast of characters for the very first time. Facing the end of a wildly successful but turbulent career, the snooker legend found himself on the verge of a career-defining tournament to win the snooker World Championship for a record seventh time.

With the cameras rolling, Ronnie was pulled back into the dark side of competition that he was ready to leave behind. From acclaimed Maradona ‘86 filmmaker Sam Blair, the film explores how one of the most revered and accomplished British sport stars is able to function at the highest level despite a constant battle with his inner demons.
The film focuses on understanding the snooker icon’s genius, illuminating his past through never-before-seen archive family footage and charts his rise to fame from his early teens and the mental challenges he has overcome in the pursuit of perfection. It features intimate interviews with O’Sullivan and some of his closest family, friends and competitors – including Damien Hirst, The Rolling Stones’ Ronnie Wood, snooker legends Jimmy White and Stephen Hendry.

Speaking to Prime Video, O’Sullivan said, “My highs and lows have been well-documented by the media but I felt like now was the right time to do something more definitive – something that I can look back and reflect on as I contemplate retirement. Going into my seventh World Championship I wasn’t sure I had it in me but allowing the cameras in ended up driving me on in many ways and gave me a different perspective.”
The feature documentary premieres exclusively in cinemas across the UK on November 21, featuring a live Q&A with O’Sullivan, Beckham – who serves as executive producer – and more. It will then launch exclusively on Amazon’s Prime Video on November 23.
It can be streamed with a subscription to Amazon Prime for £8.99 a month, but can also be viewed for free thanks to Amazon’s 30-day free trial. This gives members access to Prime Video’s huge film and TV library, as well as other great benefits including next day delivery and Amazon Music Prime.
