Man arrested over McDonald's mice stunts - with appeal over another

A man has been arrested in connection with three pro-Palestine stunts throwing mice into McDonald's restaurants in Birmingham, police say.

The 32-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday following the spate of stunts which appeared to be protests at the situation in Gaza. West Midlands Police also confirmed they were appealing for a second man - 30-year-old Billal Hussain - in connection with the protests.

In a statement, the force said: "We're asking for anyone with information about the whereabouts of Hussain, 30, to contact us now. We've already executed a number of warrants in our determination to arrest Hussain, who is suspected of being involved in the unacceptable and distressing incidents."

A video posted on social media on Monday showed customers at a McDonald's restaurant jumping in shock as mice dyed in the colours of the Palestinian flag scurried near their feet. According to reports, pro-Palestinian activists have called for protests against McDonald's after a restaurant in Israel donated meals to Israeli soldiers and security workers.

However, the corporation has come out in response saying it was not providing any kind of support to governments involved in the conflict. A spokesperson said: "McDonald's Corporation is not funding or supporting any governments involved in this conflict, and any actions from our local developmental licensee business partners were made independently, without McDonald's consent or approval.

"Our hearts are with all of the communities and families impacted by this crisis. We abhor violence of any kind and firmly stand against hate speech, and we will always proudly open our doors to everyone."

Rodents were released in separate restaurants on Monday evening and Tuesday afternoon, police said. A third incident at another branch in the Small Heath area of the city was reported on Tuesday night, but it's unconfirmed whether this was connected to the prior two.
