Family of 'dearly loved' mum found dead after walking home from pub pay tribute
The ‘heartbroken’ family of a woman found dead in her home after she walked back from the pub alone has urged anyone with information to speak to police after a 56-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder.
Much-loved Caroline Gore was a ‘dearly loved mum, daughter and sister’ who was ‘tragically taken way too soon’, her family said in a statement. The 44-year-old's body was discovered the day after her 10 minute walk home from the Dog and Partridge pub in Wallgate, Greater Manchester Police said. Caroline's family added: “We as a family are heartbroken and saddened at the loss of Caroline Gore. At this time we as a family ask for privacy and show respect for Caroline and her memory. We ask that members of the public allow the police to conduct the investigation into the passing of Caroline and that any information is passed to them.”
The mum was found dead in her flat in Douglas House, a high-rise on Millbank in Scholes, Wigan on Monday night. Police were initially called to the scene over 'concerns for her welfare'. Photos later showed multiple police cordons including a bin store taped off and a bike storage that was inside the complex also taped off.
One local told Manchester Evening News he saw police in his hallway when he returned home from a night out at around half past midnight. "There was a police officer," he said. "She just said there had been an incident and asked if I'd seen or heard anything. Which I told her I hadn't. I probably only saw her twice this year, but she was nice. It's just a big shock."
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Davis, of GMP’s Major Investigation Team, said: "This is a terribly sad murder of a woman in her own home and even though a male has been arrested, this investigation is still in its early stages. This investigation is led by a dedicated MIT team of detectives. I wish to appeal for witnesses around Douglas House – particularly from 11pm on Sunday 29 October up to 8pm on Monday 30 October and also in the Dog and Partridge pub, Wallgate, Wigan, particularly during the evening of Sunday 29 October and all day on Monday 30 October. I would like to appeal to anyone with any information no matter how small to come forward – using Crimestoppers anonymously on 101, quoting the log number 3441-201023 or MIT on 016185 66377."
