An Orthodox Jewish man was attacked and threatened with a bottle in a vile hate crime.

Detectives are hunting the thug who assaulted and racially abused the man in Stamford Hill, a Jewish area of North London, at the weekend. The perpetrator threatened to stab the victim - a man in his 40s - with a bottle in the heinous incident which was caught on CCTV.

The disturbing footage was shared by neighbourhood watch group Shomrim as the Metropolitan Police confirmed they were investigating it as a hate crime. In the clip, the attacker can be seen exchanging words with the victim before he shouts: "You mother******* Jew, I'll stab you!"

The footage was captured in the early hours of Saturday morning, and also shows a second man out of shot repeatedly shouting, "stab him". The victim then ran from the scene in fear for his safety, with the attacker seen crossing the road before the clip ends.

MyLondon reports a Met spokesperson said: "On 29 October police received a third party report of a verbal and physical assault against a man at Dunsmure Road, N16. The assault is reported to have taken place at around 00:15hrs on Saturday, 28 October. Officers have since located the victim, aged in his 40s, and an appointment will be scheduled at his convenience to obtain a statement.

"Enquiries are underway to establish the identity of the suspect. The incident is being treated as a hate crime. Officers from the Met’s Central East Command investigate. In recent days we have implemented extra patrols in Hackney where our communities feel vulnerable and these will continue. We want to ensure all our communities feel safe."

It comes as authorities up and down Britain have reportedly seen a huge surge in anti-Semitic hate crimes over recent weeks following the conflict between Israel and Gaza. The Community Security Trust (CST) said the number of incidents quadrupled from 21 to 89 in the three days after the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7.

The Met spokesperson added: "Hate crime has no place in London and we urge anyone who has been subjected to, or has witnessed such behaviour to contact police immediately." Any other victims or witnesses should contact police on 101 with the reference CAD 6688 29/10/23.
