A man says he 'grabbed' his katana and chased after the suspect after realising his neighbour had been stabbed.

The suspect, 24-year-old Miles Joseph Fridrich reportedly entered the building's shared space and fatally stabbed 52-year-old Dr. Talat Jehan Khan to death. As the chaos was going on, there were multiple witnesses, including one man who says his sword helped him scare off the attacker.

Amador recalled to Eyewitness News that he grabbed his Katana sword when he realized what was happening and ran after Fridrich, the suspect. "I said, 'Hey, what are you doing?' And just kind of spooked him," he said.

"(It) didn't look like he was there, or was a person, blank face, real dark, you know, evil look in his eyes. He had gone and left three times before I even got there, and when I got there, he was checking her pulse to make sure she was alive and then stabbed her three more times," Amador continued.

52-year-old Dr Talat Jehan Khan was sitting with her dog outside her apartment in Conroe, Texas, on Saturday when a man is said to have attacked her. Police said Miles Joseph Fridrich allegedly stabbed her multiple times, according to reports.

Conroe police were called to a report of a disturbance with weapons at the Alys apartments in the College Park area of the city at around 12.30pm on Saturday. When they arrived at the scene, they found Dr Khan with multiple stab wounds.

Dr Khan's brother, Wajahat Nyaz, said his sister had moved to the Texas city from Seattle in July to enjoy the area's warm climate. He said: "She liked to see the sun and warm weather, so that was one of the main reasons why she moved here."

The beloved paediatrician leaves behind a 14-year-old daughter and a 23-year-old son. Mr Nyaz added: "Her kids and her kids she looked after as a paediatrician were her entire life. Everything in her life revolved around those two things."

Fridrich, 24, was arrested on charges of first-degree murder. Following his arrest, a motive for the brutal stabbing was not immediately clear. However, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) in Houston issued a statement saying it is "paying very close attention" to the investigation.

"While the police have not released a motive for the killing, we want to assure everyone that we are in conversation with law enforcement agencies," CAIR said in a Facebook post. "We are unsure at this moment if this was a hate crime, however, given the tragic circumstances, we are paying very close attention to the investigation.

"We will continue to monitor the situation while we launch our own investigation and continue established dialogue with law enforcement. For the time being, we encourage the community to be vigilant and to keep the family in your Du'aa during this difficult time. May Allah make it easy for them."

A witness told local outlet KHOU the suspect "came out of nowhere" in the horrific attack. They said: "I was outside and I heard a woman out there, and I heard that she was screaming... She was sitting at the picnic table."

One of Dr Khan's neighbours, Sharon J, reacted to the attack by saying: "Obviously, we lost a good, young person in this world. All for nothing, you know? It can't be that bad that you kill a person. I just don't get that. It's horrible. It's a life, a young person's life."

As the police investigation continues, it's not yet clear whether there was any connection between Dr Khan and Fridrich, whether they knew each other or lived at the apartment complex. Records show Fridrich is being held on a $500,000 bond.
