A woman was shot dead by gangsters after she was ordered to roll down her car window but couldn’t due to faulty electrics.

Carolayne Nascimento Barcelos, 25, was driving home from a party at a friend’s house early in the morning of Saturday, October 28 when she found her car surrounded by heavily armed thugs. After they ordered her to roll down the car window, which is common in the area of Serra, Brazil, Carolayne couldn’t do what they asked as the car wasn’t working properly.

The woman was then shot through the glass for failing to follow their orders. She was shot multiple times in the face before the car rolled into her dad’s front gate and he discovered what had happened. Carolayne’s 17-year-old mate, who was also in the car, escaped unharmed.

Carolayne, who had been working at her dad's supermarket for three years after getting her administration degree, was raced to to a local A&E but medics there could only pronounce her dead. Her funeral was held on Saturday evening and she was buried the following morning.

A cousin told local media she was ‘an exceptional girl, a wonderful person’ and added: "Her parents are devastated. Her mother is on sedatives. The entire neighbourhood is in mourning." He explained that what happened to Carolayne before she was shot happens often in the area.

He said: "Any car that enters, they order you to roll down the windows. If you don't, they shoot. We never imagined something like this would happen in the family. Earlier, her car had an electrical problem. We are waiting for a response from the authorities." Police say they are now investigating the case.
