You'll know the weather has dropped significantly when you start getting condensation on your bedroom windows every morning - but why does this actually happen?

Condensation usually occurs in the winter, when the warm air inside a property clashes with the cool glass, causing water droplets to form. This happens more often if a home is poorly ventilated - and often in bedrooms. This is because we create humidity in the bedroom from breathing and sweating - and at this point, the temperature in the room falls to its lowest point - which amounts to the perfect conditions for condensation to form.

This can be a problem, because if left untreated it can lead to mould - which can, in turn, cause health problems such as asthma.

Luckily, a man has shared his simple solution to stopping condensation in the bedroom - and it won't cost you a penny. TikToker and property investor @thatpropertyguy took to the video-sharing platform to explain the cause, and how to stop it.

He explained: "A lot of people saying they get condensation on one window in the morning and I guarantee it's gonna' be your bedroom window... overnight, the moisture from your breath is going to collect on the cold surface of the window. It's the same principle when you breathe on a window."

In order to combat this, all you need to do is either open your window a small amount to create ventilation. This is a free and simple solution - but some might be reluctant to do this because it lets out the heat.

In that case, he recommends investing in a dehumidifier. They range in price, but you can get a Black+Decker one for as little as £39.99 at Currys, although at the time of writing it is out of stock. Instead, you could snap one up today for £54.99 by Russell Hobbs on the same website. Most dehumidifiers work by drawing excess moisture from the air in the room, which can help combat condensation and mould growth. According to Which?, the best dehumidifiers don't cost much to run, and can be a great investment.

In the comment section, others pointed out that most windows have air vents at the top or bottom, which will allow for passive ventilation, which always stops condensation. One person wrote: "Look for a vent at the top of the window."

And a second wrote: "You can put this type of window 'on the latch' or 'stand off', just pull the window to almost closed and rotate the handle. Useful if no trickle vents." A third commented: "I have a dehumidifier in my room and they are very very good."
