One of the many downsides of the weather turning cooler is the increased build-up of condensation in our homes. When the cold window glass meets the warm air inside our property, it can cause droplets of water to form - and if left untreated this can turn into black mould.

One woman recently shared she was being "driven insane" by the build-up of condensation in her home, and was looking for advice on how to prevent it. There are many different ways to do this, including leaving your windows open to increase air circulation. However, this can cause your energy bills to surge as you let all the heat out of your home, and many of us will want to avoid this as the cost of living crisis continues.

Luckily, fans of the cleaning sensation Mrs Hinch, who often shares hacks with her 4.7million followers on Instagram, have shared their own budget-friendly advice for stopping condensation. Taking to the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook page, the woman wrote: "Condensation hacks please, I'm being driven insane!".

The post was flooded with responses, but many of them said the same thing - that she should invest in a dehumidifier. One person shared: "We use a dehumidifier in the winter which helps. But other than that it's heat and ventilation plus make sure your loft has adequate insulation and it's been installed properly. There should be a gap around the edge where your roof tiles meet the walls I believe."

Others agreed, with one person commenting: "As above. If you do get a dehumidifier make sure it is a low-energy one. Ours costs only a few pence per hour," and a third simply said: "Dehumidifier. They are amazing." This was backed up by a fourth, who added: "A good dehumidifier cured my condensation and mould problem. Worth the money."

Dehumidifiers range in price, but you can get a Black+Decker one for as little as £39.99 at Currys, although at the time of writing it is out of stock. Instead, you could snap one up today for £54.99 by Russell Hobbs on the same website. Most dehumidifiers work by drawing excess moisture from the air in the room, which can help combat condensation and mould growth. According to Which?, the best dehumidifiers don't cost much to run, and can be a great investment.
