We all know that dating isn't always easy and first dates can be especially awkward, with the pressure to get to know someone and make small talk. There are also often all these little unwritten rules for dates and it can be tricky to figure out things like who pays the bill these days.

In the modern world of dating, it's common to split the bill equally or pay for your share of the food and drink, but one man has caused a stir over his money request after a date - and the woman has been praised for her response.

The pair, known only as Jason and Anna, went on a date and as reported by the Daily Mail in Australia, she claimed that during the evening, Jason had racked up a hefty bill buying himself extra drinks. The total came to $100 (£53), but Anna says only $25 (£13) of that was her share.

That evening she offered to split the cost of it all with him, but Jason had refused her and paid the full amount himself. However, the next morning it was clear he'd had a change of heart, so he sent her a rather jaw-dropping message, asking for not only her portion of the bill, but more money on top of that.

A screenshot of their text conversation was shared online, showing he wrote: "I had a great time last night! After thinking it over, I think I will take you up on splitting the dinner. I'm going to the game today and didn't realise I spent so much last night. Can you send me $50 (£26)?"

But Anna wasn't having any of it and replied: "Good morning. That offer expired after we left the restaurant. Have fun at the game." A number of people have responded to the screenshot, sharing their shock over Jason's cheeky request, many not able to believe he had the audacity.

One person said: "Paying for yourself is not the same as splitting the tab. You pay for what you ate and drank, he pays for what he ate and drank. You shouldn't have to pay for him." While someone else commented: "What a f**king clown - every day I wonder how people like this are real, there are so many entitled blokes in the world."

Someone else proclaimed: "As a frugal person, 'splitting the tab' sucks. I get a reasonably priced item, the other person orders like they are wealthy as f**k. No thanks, I'm not subsidising your gold flake-covered dessert." And a different user added: "This person has no damn shame. That's embarrassing as a man to even ask a woman to go half with you on a dinner date."
