Treatments bought in chemists reduce likelihood of ailments other solutions provide a more natural approach. Home remedies, meanwhile, will help you feel better until you are able to access treatment. Health website WebMD has suggested ways of beating the common cold

Regular nose blows are a necessity to prevent taking the mucus back into your system. However there is a more effective way of doing this. Experts advise keeping a finger over one nostril as you gently try to clear the other. To prevent further infection and after blowing your nose, you should always wash your hands

It is vital to get enough rest to enable you to fight the cold or flu. This helps your body channel its energy in the immune battle. It can be hugely wearing so sufferers are advised to lie down under the covers.

A teaspoon of salt dissolved in warm water as a gargle will help reduce any aches in your throat. This should be done four times a day. it will prevent any itches or tickles in the throat. Health experts also recommend an astringent gargle which contains tannin or using lemon juice in hot water with a teaspoon of honey. it should be cooled before gargling and those under the age of one should not be asked to do this.

Hot or warm drinks help prevent congestion and dehydration But some tea leaves such as chamomile, will ease inflammation of the nose and throat. Further hints include using honey which also helps against viruses and tackles bacteria.

Any throat sweets which you are taking should have Echinacea or elderberry extract, zinc, and vitamin C. Irritation of the nose can be treated with Aloe and mint teas often help with menthol also used as rubs. These oils should reduce inflammation in the airways and some shop bought lozenges also have very low doses of aspirin which can help soothe a sore throat.

If you have cold or flu, the steam of a shower can moisturize the inside of the nose and provide relaxation. Flu can cause dizziness and the steam can assist recovery while you sit nearby or take a sponge bath.

Either hot or cold packs can provide relief, but they don't need to be bought and can be made using a damp washcloth which can be heated heat in a microwave. A small bag of frozen vegetables can be used as a cold pack.

Using an extra pillow under your head can help drain your of nasal passages. It may take a while to achieve the most effective and comfortable angle.
