Over the years, Ryan Reynolds has seen his fame grow after appearing in several hit movies such as Deadpool, Free Guy and The Proposal. While his career on the big screen has taken off, the Canadian-American actor has been involved in various projects away from Hollywood which have bolstered his bank balance.

His business portfolio includes the purchase of Wrexham AFC. Alongside Rob McElhenney, the Hollywood duo have helped bring exposure to the team and region. Their journey as owners of a football club has been documented on the Netflix series, “Welcome to Wrexham.”

In July, Reynolds took his career to a new level. The Hollywood star completed his first billion-dollar deal after selling wireless firm Mint Mobile to telecoms giant T-Mobile for $1.35 billion (£1.12bn). Reynolds is expected to receive a nine-figure payday from the deal, but the exact amount is unknown, according to Investopedia.

Before the deal, the 46-year-old already had an estimated net worth of over $150million (£134m). It is just another example of how Reynolds has thrived away from the movie set.

Reynolds' journey in entrepreneurship began in 2018 after he starred in Deadpool. That same year, Reynolds purchased an unspecified minority stake in the liquor brand Aviation Gin. Two years later, the company was sold to Diageo for $610 million (£500m).

A year later, Reynolds began his stint with Mint Mobile. That was only the beginning of a busy year as he also invested $750 million (£780m) in Canadian fintech Wealthsimple, according to Reuters. In 2022, the Vancouver native was part of a $620 million (£586m) Series C funding round for the platform 1Password, which valued the company at $6.8 billion (£6billion)

While his business interests cover various topics, Reynolds has become heavily involved in sports. Along with Rob McElhenney, Reynolds joined a group of investors supporting the Formula One racing team, Alpine, in a deal worth $218 million (£200M), according to Formula One. The group also includes Otro Capital, RedBird Capital partnered and Reynold’s Maximum Effort.

In March, Reynolds set his eyes on the NHL when he joined a bid to buy the Ottawa Senators, which Forbes values at $800 million (£700 million). He partnered with the Ontario developer Remington Group, which plans to build a new arena. According to the Ottawa Sun, the prepared bid was more than 1 billion.

Reynolds's success comes at an ideal time, as Wrexham is third in the Football League Two Standings. The team is also set to face Chelsea and Manchester United on a pre-season tour in the United States this summer.

While Reynolds's journey in the entrepreneur world is far from over the last two years, he has shown that he is off to a promising start.
