Strictly fans fume over leaked spoiler as they demand recount

Strictly Come Dancing fans have fumed and demanded a recount after the name of the latest evictee was leaked online.

Fans of the BBC Latin and ballroom show have been left fuming after the result of the Halloween special was leaked online as a fan favourite bid their farewell to the ballroom. The BBC have faced a losing battle for years trying to keep the name of who leaves Strictly a secret, with desperate fans rushing to social media and online to find out if their favourite has gone.

The live performances take place on Saturday before a long pause whilst the public vote for who they want to see on the programme next week. The exit show is then filmed late at night on Saturday evening when the public vote is closed, but the broadcaster doesn't air the exit until the following day, the Sunday, nearly a whole 24 hours after the result is confirmed.

The Mirror has chosen not to reveal who left the competition this week, but fans have been left frustrated after learning of the bottom two. One wrote: "Happy with who went out. Not so much with other in dance off...," whilst a second added: "Did not expect them to be in the bottom! That’s shocked me." A third added: "They didn’t deserve that!"

Last year, an angry Anton du Beke fumed over the Strictly spoiler, calling it "pathetic". Speaking about the spoiler, he said: "That irritates me. I get irritated. I hate anybody who’s a spoiler. I can only think they take great pleasure from it and I just want to say grow up. Don’t spoil it for other people. Everybody knows what the show is.

"It’s a live show where people at home vote for who they want to keep in, and then we do the results show afterwards, and then on the following evening, the results show is aired and then we see who’s been voted off. It’s not necessary for anybody to tell people the results of that show before they happen, because it’s only tomorrow night – it’s not next week."

David Thorpe - also known as the Strictly spoiler - has been publishing the exit online for years. Defending his decision to do so, he exclusively told The Mirror: "I mean, as far as the people who are accessing it go through me, they are actively seeking it out.

"They want to know. So I'm not spoiling it for people who don’t want to know and I do my very best not to - I try limit it to those who want to find out. People google the results and hit my website through searching. If there wasn’t a demand for the information to be out there, my site wouldn’t get as many hits as it does."
