Ruth Langsford has opened up about the health of her husband, Eamonn Holmes, confessing to her Loose Women co-stars that his recent illnesses have “been terrible”.

Her fellow cast members appeared shocked when the panellist, 62, opened up on the show about the chronic back pain that Eamonn has been battling, which led to him undergoing life-threatening surgery to try to correct the issue.

Ruth said: “He was struggling with bulging discs.

"Then he had a back operation, which you know was always that nerve-wracking moment isn't it?

"And then a few days after that he fell downstairs and broke his shoulder. So it's been a really difficult time, so I took some time off really to be at home and look after him.”

Devastatingly, Eamonn’s mother passed away during his health battle, with Ruth continuing: “And then very sadly his mum passed away in the middle of all that so it's been a terrible time.

"It's a lot of bad luck. And these things come along, and you're like, 'Anything else?'"

Luckily, Ruth’s co-stars were on hand to comfort her, with Carol McGiffin telling her: “You know what? 2023 can’t get any worse then, can it?”

Fans of the couple became concerned for Eamonn’s health after Ruth took to social media with a “worrying” update at Christmas.

She shared a clip of their rescue dog Maggie, however her fans were quick to point out that the GB News star was absent from the video.

Ruth had captioned the clip: “Never seem to find time to post much over Christmas and I know it’s over now, but I couldn’t resist making this little reel of Maggie enjoy the festive season! It’s all about the kids isn’t it?!!"

However, her followers were more concerned about Eamonn not being featured on Ruth’s social media accounts.

One person wrote: “Where’s poor Eamonn? You never seem to mention him at all lately.”

Another added: “Oh, just love Maggie and your gorgeous Mum. However, how is your wonderful husband Eamon right now. I miss him so much on your posts.”

“Please let us know how Eamonn is Ruth we are so worried for him,” someone else fretted, while a fourth commenter said: “Awww, Maggie is loving that bed! Hope you’ve all had a super Christmas and that @eamonnholmes continues to get stronger every day."
