Blaming everything and everybody except himself for the NHS crisis, Stephen Barclay should look in a mirror and see who is to blame: the Conservatives.

The Tories’ reckless, dangerous austerity squeezed the life out of the health service for a decade and even the extra money going in now is still historically low.

Waiting lists were lengthening and treatment targets were being missed well before the pandemic hit. And which party, in power since 2010, failed to solve social care and has again put it on the back burner?

The Health Secretary is now swerving patients and the public – never mind nurses, ambulance crews and doctors – because they told him what he didn’t want to hear.

The political party that imposed a straitjacket on the NHS owes us an apology... plus a plan to make the health service better.

Teacher blow

Teachers are quitting amid complaints of being underpaid and overworked – and the brain drain is damaging our children and grandchildren’s education.

Something is seriously wrong when one-in-eight quit the classroom within their first year of qualifying and one-in-three within five years.

It’s impossible to disagree with the National Education Union’s warning that this loss is a waste of talent, time and taxpayers’ money.

In England, the Government has spent years eroding the living standards of teachers and occasionally demonising the profession. So it is no wonder these abused and exhausted professionals feel under-appreciated.

Kids will suffer and dreams will be crushed until teachers are fairly rewarded.

The new series of The Apprentice will feature a (purely business) trip to Antigua for Lord Sugar’s lucky contestants.

Could we be in for a reality TV role reversal, where the social media stars of Love Island decide to ditch the swimwear and wear power-suits and sensible shoes in their next series?
