BBC Breakfast fans despair over 'antagonistic' interview with Geri Horner

Geri Horner endured an awkward line of questioning from Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty on BBC Breakfast this week - leaving viewers cringing over their Corn Flakes.

The 51-year-old Spice Girls legend was a guest on the early morning BBC news show on Thursday and joined 61-year-old Charlie and 48-year-old Naga on the red sofa. The singer has been on the promotion trail to discuss her new children’s novel, titled Rosie Frost and the Falcon Queen.

However, it seems Geri is possibly not so comfortable being grilled on TV and Charlie and Naga turned the line of questioning towards the Wannabe singer’s comfort levels. The BBC hosts also highlighted that they felt like they were the ones being interviewed during the segment on their show.

Naga said: “Do you know what, you're very interesting as an interviewee. You've come in, making sure you've done your research on us as well haven't you?” This prompted Geri to comment that she thought that was: “The polite thing to do.’”

Charlie then jumped in, and said: “Also, you point your finger quite a lot, to be honest.” His comment seemed to take Geri by surprised, who replied: “Is that rude?! I'm so sorry Charlie.”

Addressing Geri more directly, Naga then asked: “Do you not like being interviewed?” But Geri replied that she “didn’t mind” being put in the spotlight.

As attention turned to Geri’s book, the singer-turned-author - who is married to Billionaire Formula One boss Christian Horner - explained that she likes to write her novels in a small shed on the grounds of her home. Latching on to this comment, Charlie commented: “I bet it's not a little shed, is it? When you say shed, I'm thinking like a warehouse or luxury room.”

Geri then replied: “I'm hearing cynicism, no it's a little shed in the garden.” And while the atmosphere on the set of the BBC news show seemed to remain relatively light, viewers couldn’t help but question how awkward things had turned.

One fan, taking to X, wrote: “Why is this interview with Geri on BBC Breakfast so awkward? Geri is a delight, but both interviewers seem to have this slight antagonistic undertone, it's so weird!”

Another panned the BBC hosts’ line of questioning, with one writing: “Disappointing to hear Geri being asked more about her husband than her writing. Very naughty Charlie!” And a further viewer commented: “It would have been great to hear Geri talk without being interrupted an condescended constantly.”

A more successful recent interview for Geri saw her being questioned by Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson who quizzed her over a luxury dinner on his podcast. Highlighting their chat online, he wrote: "Gingers unite! Well, say hello to @gerihalliwellhorner, my lovely guest on this week’s Dinner’s on Me episode!

"On this episode, Spice Girl, and author Geri Halliwell-Horner (aka Ginger Spice) joins the show. Over delicious lobster and oysters at @sonofagunresturant in Los Angeles, Geri discusses why the Spice Girls and their 'girl power' message still resonate today, and the release of her new young adult book Rosie Frost and the Falcon Queen."
