US tourist charged with rape and murder of student thrown into ravine at castle
An American tourist accused of the rape and murder of a student who was thrown into ravine at a German castle also allegedly possessed child pornography.
Troy Bohling, 31, has been charged with the murder of 21-year-old Eva Liu and the attempted murder of her 22-year-old friend, Kelsey Chang, at a ‘Cinderella’ castle in Germany. The young graduates were visiting the Neuschwanstein castle in the German Alps when they allegedly encountered Bohling.
A statement from the public prosecutor’s office said Bohling had not met the women before meeting them on a hiking trail with views of the famous castle - often claimed to be the inspiration for Disney’s Cinderella castle. The incident occurred in June.

They claimed he lured them to a vantage point before allegedly pouncing on Ms Liu, throwing her to the ground and attempting to carry out “sexual acts” on her. Ms Chang tried to help her friend, before Bohling threw her down a slope “knowing she would be fatally injured”, the statement reads.

Eva Liu was tragically killed (Linkedin/Eva Liu)Police spokesman Holger Stabik told the Associated Press at the time: “The younger of the two women was attacked by the suspect. The older one tried to rush to her aid, was then choked by the suspect and subsequently pushed down a slope.”
Bohling then raped and strangled Ms Liu according to the statement, and threw her body into the ravine where she then slammed into the tree. Ms Liu died from her injuries and Ms Chang fortunately survived after both women were airlifted to a hospital.
Lincoln Park, Michigan resident Bohling was arrested in scenes which were filmed by other tourists who witnessed the assault. Police seized his laptop and mobile phone where they found child porn. Following German law Bohling has not been officially identified by police, but his name has been confirmed by sources.

The mum-of-three told the : “I just can’t think of a time where he was mean or rude or hurtful.
“He took me out to dinner, and he still seemed like the same Troy that I knew in high school,” she recalled of a time when he took her out for dinner three-and-a-half years ago. Of the allegations, she said: “It’s mind-blowing – It’s just mind boggling to me because he was never violent.”
Ms Liu and Ms Chang were on a European trip after their graduation from University of Illinois. Their college confirmed Liu’s tragic death.
Bohling lived in a single-storey house 20 minutes from Detroit, with his brother Trevor. He was described by neighbours as “quiet”, with one saying he “would never look you down in the eye when he came and went”. The neighbour added: “I’m shocked what he’s been accused of,” the neighbour went on, “I’m scared he may have done stuff here and no one has figured it out yet.”
