Fans of the BBC comedy series Back To Life have been left distressed by reports that the show has been ‘cancelled’ - and the show creator has waded into the rumours to correct the record.

Comedy star Daisy Haggard co-wrote the dark comedy show alongside fellow comedy writer Laura Solon - with the series first hitting screens in 2019. A second season followed in 2021 and fans had been eagerly hoping that more episodes of the BBC show would one day appear.

But now 45-year-old Daisy - who was also a star of hit comedy Episodes - has confirmed that fans have had their lot - and she is thrilled that the series has been able to go out on a high. The show - which followed a character named Miri Matteson, played by Daisy, who rebuilds her life after spending time in jail - won critical acclaim when it aired and ran for 12 episodes.

Speaking on the Out to Lunch podcast, Daisy explained: "It feels really sad to kill Back To Life because I love Back To Life. But I think the story is done. I've got so many things I want to do, I've got two or three film ideas that I'm really excited about."

The news was a bit of a shock to fans, although many agreed it had ended on a brilliant note. One fan wrote online: "So much better to end on a high, even if there’s potential for more. Too many shows can’t resist the lure of one more season, only to ruin the vibe that made them popular."

Another concurred that the show had ended fantastically, writing: “Such a great story, and the end of season 2 felt like a proper end. Looking forward to what you create next!”

Reports and other social media posts subsequently suggested that the BBC cancelled the series - but Daisy has insisted that is not the case. And taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, on Thursday, she took aim at the rumours to set the record straight.

The TV star wrote: “Had lots of lovely messages mistakenly worrying that #backtolife has been cancelled! But do not worry, it was in fact a decision we came to ourselves to end the story exactly as we did , and I’m so proud of the story we told!”

Back To Life is not the only show that Daisy has been winning fans from. She shared top billing on the Sky One comment show Breeders alongside Marvel actor Martin Freeman. The show aired from 2020 and climaxed earlier this year after winning critical acclaim in the UK and USA.

Meanwhile, she will soon be seen in a new BBC and Amazon Freevee comedy-drama called Boat Story which will see a host of characters, including Daisy as a character named Janet, finding their lives turn upside down when they discover a hoard of cocaine.
