Robin Williams’ magical former family home in San Francisco, which features whimsical hidden passageways and secret rooms, has been listed for sale at a whopping $25 million.

The Italian Renaissance-style property boasts jaw-dropping views of the iconic Golden Gate Bridge and the San Francisco Bay, and the mansion, located in the exclusive Sea Cliff neighbourhood, underwent a huge transformation when Robin and his then-wife Marsha Garces Williams bought it in 1991 for just $3.2 million. They stripped the house almost down to the foundations and began painstakingly creating their dream family home.

“Marsha and Robin Williams took the house down to the studs and rebuilt it in the early nineties, updating all the major systems,” real estate agent Steven Mavromihalis from Compass told The New York Post.

The three-level property is spread over 10,600 square feet, and features six bedrooms, and five bathrooms. One of the most unique parts of the luxury property are the hidden passageways added by the late comedian for his children, to allow them to travel to each other's bedrooms.

There were also secret rooms for the kids, which created a whimsical world for his and Marsha’s kids - daughter Zelda and son Cody Allen - beyond their playroom.

A Prohibition-era-style bar is concealed behind a wall in the media room, and outside there’s a giant topiary dinosaur and metal gargoyles that crawl along the house’s exterior. The property also includes a Japanese-themed bathroom with a raised tub, a library, and a wine cellar.

Security conscious prospective buyers will also enjoy the walk-in vault, and there’s space to house friends and family for special occasions in the separate one-bedroom guest apartment also located on the estate.

Robin and Marsha wed in 1989 and divorced in 2010, with the Mrs Doubtfire producer awarded the San Francisco mansion in the couple’s settlement.

She previously listed the home in 2010 for $5.4 million, but failed to have any interested buyers. Marsha told Mansion Global she was ready to downsize to a smaller property in the area now her and Robin’s children had left home.

“It’s a beautiful, happy house. We had many, many fantastic years of fun and play and joy there,” she explained. The gated property was originally built in 1926 and belonged to shipping and lumber magnate Oliver J. Olson.

It also includes sweeping views of the Marin Headlands, with guests wowed by the staggering Golden Gate Bridge that can be seen from inside the property, as well as from the gardens.
