Horrifying moment man hurls paving slab at Muslim woman in 'racist' attack

This is the horrifying moment a man hurled a paving slab at a woman wearing a hijab in a suspected racist attack.

CCTV footage shows the woman standing on the side of a street in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, on Tuesday when a hooded man runs across the road towards her. He holds up a large slab, which appears to be made of concrete, before launching it at her head at a close range.

The victim manages to dodge just in time and hurries over to two passersby while clutching the side of her head, as another witness rushes out of a nearby shop. Meanwhile, the attacker, who can be seen wearing a black coat and trousers, walks away with his hands in his pockets.

West Yorkshire Police confirmed that it is aware of the footage and a 57-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident, which it is treating "extremely seriously". Enquiries are ongoing, the force added.

The clip was posted on social media, where it was shared over 9,000 times. It was captioned: "This is absolutely horrific - a hijab-wearing Muslim woman has had a paving slab thrown at her head by a white man in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire."

A police spokesman said: "We are aware of this video and can assure residents such incidents are treated extremely seriously. A man has been arrested in connection with the offence and enquiries are ongoing by Kirklees Police." The Mirror has contacted the force for further information regarding the nature of the alleged offence.
