A man has come under fire for revealing that he is upset at his pregnant wife because she refused to drink alcohol on his birthday. The couple are expecting their first child together, and in keeping with medical guidelines, the wife is not drinking for the duration of her pregnancy.

Just recently, the man turned 32 and the couple headed out with some friends to celebrate the occasion. He thought that his wife, 25, did not appear to be enjoying herself and so, the next time he went to the bar, he bought her a bottle of 3% beer - which he describes as "nothing too strong". She refused to drink it.

"I asked her to, nicely, because it was my birthday and having one or two beers would probably help her enjoy the night a bit more," he wrote on Reddit, which was then shared via X. His wife continued to refuse the drink, and eventually became so upset she got a taxi home alone.

She then sent him a message telling him not to come back so he spent the night at a hotel. "We spoke at midday today when I got home, and I explained that she should have respected my wishes for her to try and enjoy my birthday, especially considering the fact I have been waiting on her hand and foot for months. She responded saying some stuff about alcohol harming the baby, but honestly, I think one or two beers wouldn't hurt," he added.

The man concluded by revealing that his wife had now moved into her parents' home for the week while she 'clears her head' before asking who was in the wrong. And people did not hold back.

"Whether or not she was pregnant, she has every right to refuse alcohol, or ANYTHING she chooses. Also regarding 'she should have respected my wishes'… what about respecting HER wishes? So, she should potentially endanger her baby because HE said so, because he considers driving her to the doctor (which he SHOULD be doing anyway) waiting on her hand and foot?" one person wrote in response.

A second added: "'She should have respected my wishes' is a huge red flag here, and I guarantee this incident isn't the first." A third wrote: "Lol and he calls himself a loving and doting husband but can't respect a simple boundary."

And a fourth person reasoned: "It doesn't even matter that she’s pregnant: DEMANDING someone drink alcohol so they can be more fun is completely unacceptable always."
