A social media influencer has come up with an innovative way to use skincare products to keep warm. Actor and podcaster Scott McGlynn says he’s been using the hack that could mean shoppers could avoid putting the heating on - in turn, saving money on their bills.

The content creator shared a video to his 249,000 Instagram followers where he demonstrated how to use an £18 beauty product to heat your face, hands and even feet to stay ‘toasty’ in the cold weather.

The 36-year-old recommended using self-heating skincare products, such as the Pixi In Shower Steam Facial, which is £18 from most retailers like LookFantastic or Cult Beauty.

He told followers: “Self-heating masks and other products are developed with special ingredients that heat up by releasing energy when activated, in what is known as an exothermic reaction. You can apply anywhere - face, hands, feet, chest, neck. Save your money, keep you warm without putting on the heating.”

In the clip, Scott suggests that beauty fans could use the Pixi product in the shower or before going outside, as the ‘heat from rubbing your hands together gets it so warm and hot’. The skincare lover could be seen applying a small amount of product to his hands and rubbing it in, claiming it to be ‘toasty’ on his skin.

He added: “I hate those little hand jelly things as they dont work for me to be quite honest and it's a one use kind of thing but I went out into the rain and put some of this onto my hands, my hands were so nice and warm. I actually used it on my feet as well. It's so easy to apply.

“Then i’ll put gloves on, i do exactly the same on my feet, apply it to the feet right on the heel area then i’ll put some thick socks on. My little tip for you to not put the heating on and save some money, there are so many ways you can use this product. My hands are nice and toasty and I love it.”

The Pixi Collagen In-Shower Steam Facial is said to release a pleasant warming sensation when massaged onto skin’, and thanks to the addition of collagen, delivers firming, plumping and moisturising benefits too. It’s got a 4.1 star rating on the LookFantastic website from shoppers who said they love the warming feeling.

One said: “I use this every single morning. I love the hot feeling it gives and makes my skin feel and look amazing.” Another added: “You only need to use a small amount! Great product when in the shower and smells nice.”

A third commented: “I use this every single morning. It's absolutely amazing and makes my skin feel amazing and to top it off it lasts forever.” However some said while it’s relaxing, they ‘didn’t really see any skincare benefits but it’s nice for self care’.

But it’s not the only self-heating mask on the market, with Holland and Barrett stocking the Q&A Vitamin A.C.E Warming Gel Mask , which is just over half the size of the Pixi product, but also half the cost at £9. Alternatively, Scott told The Mirror you can also use ‘heated eye masks as hand warmers’ which saves money on one time hand warmers’. You can currently buy a pack of five for under £10, working out at less than £2.50 each. But if it’s Scott’s Pixi hack you want to try for yourself, you can buy it here on LookFantastic.
