Woman dies of meningitis just days after nose job as family demand answers
A woman who was left projectile vomiting hours after getting a nose job died just ten days later as her health rapidly deteriorated.
Karla Mayela Anaya Amador’s family are now demanding action after the surgery at a centre in Mexico City on 29 September. They say they want ‘justice’ over the 28-year-old’s tragic death after she was diagnosed with meningitis on 3 October and declared brain dead a little more than a week later.
Hours after the cosmetic procedure finished, Karla reportedly began to feel unwell and was left fainting and feeling dizzy. She was raced to A&E where medics gave her a check-up, prescribed her anti-sickness medicine and sent her home. But just days later Karla’s health took a turn for the worse and she was taken back for bacteria culture tests and a biopsy. She also had a craniotomy procedure, which sees doctors surgically remove part of the bone from the skull in order to expose the brain.

It is still unknown where the young woman contracted an infection but officials are investigating her death as a case of suspected medical malpractice.
Her sister Jessica told local media: “We want justice because it’s unbelievable that a surgery, as the doctor says, where people come out with smiles, ends up hurting an entire family because my sister was a good person.” In a post on social media, Karla’s family wrote: “Fly high, Karla Mayela Anaya Amador, those of us who remain will seek justice for you; your femicide will not go unpunished. In the arms of our Lord, you are now filled with light and love!"
