Strictly star says Bobby Brazier is overmarked while 'better' dancers overlooked

Former Strictly Come Dancing professional Brendan Cole thinks Bobby Brazier is benefiting from some generous marking from the judging panel.

The dancer, who left the BBC series in 2018, says Angela Scanlon is actually better than the rest of the contestants in many respects as he delivers his verdict on the latest batch of performances from the celebrity contestants. Brendan also calls out judge Craig Revel Horwood over some inconsistent marking.

Discussing Angela Scanlon following her American Smooth with Carlo Gu to Cherish by Madonna on Saturday night, Brendan says: "She’ll definitely keep up with the rest of the celebs because I think she’s actually better than the rest of them in many respects. I think she’s doing what is being asked of her and she’s really lovely to watch.

He adds: "I don’t think her number on Saturday was unattractive or bad in any way. Perhaps if the one of the lesser abled contestants did the same number they would have gotten a lot of praise for it, she really didn’t get the praise she deserved. It wasn’t a 10 but it wasn’t a 6!"

Speaking to Sky Bingo, Brendan then goes on to take a little swipe at judge Craig and EastEnders actor Bobby, noting: "Craig [Revel Horwood] gave the performance a 6, which is harsh. Giving a nine to Ellie [Leach] and six to Angela when they weren’t that far apart from a dancing ability.

"Bobby [Brazier] got a seven and they messed up the fleckle completely and Bobby looked like he was wearing his PJs! I think she [Angela Scanlon] is one of the better ones in the competition and I hope that next week they do something really amazing. She’s one of my favourite competitors on the show, and probably one of the best signings for a long time."

Strictly professional Dianne Buswell and Bobby both appeared on ITV Lorraine on Tuesday morning, just hours on from Amanda Abbington's exit from the BBC competition being announced by Fleur East on It Takes Two on Monday night. Amanda and her professional partner Giovanni Pernice had been given a bye to the Halloween week after missing out last weekend due to medical reasons, but it has since been confirmed they will not be back this series as a partnership.

Speaking about Amanda's shock exit with host Christine Lampard, Bobby and Dianne confessed they would miss Amanda, with the line-up spending a lot of time together and often growing close on the show. Bobby, son of the late Jade Goody, then added: "I'm still gonna go to hers and have dinner," to which Dianne told Christine: "She's invited Bobby over for dinner!" Bobby then added: "I'm glad she's doing what she wants," backing her decision to leave the show after being unable to perform.
