Lupita put her troubles behind her as she headed out with a friend

Lupita Nyong'o was full of smiles as she was seen for the first time since getting cosy with Joshua Jackson.

The Oscar-winning actress, 40, fuelled rumours of a romance with the Dawson’s Creek star, 45, when the couple were spotted getting close at a Janelle Monae gig over the weekend in California. Lupita and Joshua, who are newly single, were with a large group of friends as they spent the evening chatting, laughing and dancing together.

Joshua has recently split from his wife Jodie Turner Smith, after the Queen & Slim star filed for divorce earlier this month, citing “irreconcilable differences” in papers at a Los Angeles court. The couple, who share daughter Juno, 3, only celebrated their four-year wedding anniversary in August, and fans were stunned when news emerged of their shock split.

Just days after it emerged Joshua and Jodie were separating, the Dr. Death star was spotted enjoying some time with Lupita, who had also recently confirmed she had split from longtime boyfriend Selema Masekala. The Black Panther star shared an emotional statement on social media as she described how she needed to “publicly dissociate myself from someone I can no longer trust.”

After a few tumultuous days, Lupita emerged on Monday with a huge smile on her face, as she enjoyed a day out with her mother Dorothy and a friend in Santa Monica. The 12 Years A Slave star looked incredible in a chic black dress and a cream coat, and vintage-style round-rimmed sunglasses.

She looked carefree and relaxed as she headed into the Oceana Hotel for a quick bite to eat, and seemingly had put the troubles in her love life behind her. Lupita concerned her Instagram followers when she posted a lengthy statement about her split from Selema, 52, and hinted at rumours of infidelity when she confessed she could no longer trust him.

“There are much more important things going on in the world right now, and my thoughts are with those who are deeply suffering. At this moment, it is necessary for me to share a personal truth and publicly dissociate myself from someone I can no longer trust…,” she began.

“I find myself in a season of heartbreak because of a love suddenly and devastatingly extinguished by deception. I am tempted to run into the shadows and hide, only to return to the light when I have regained my strength enough for me to say, ‘Whatever, my life is better this way,’” Lupita continued.

She finished her post with an empowering quote, as she said “a tender heart is what gives birth to fearlessness”, and vowed to keep looking for love despite her heartbreak.
