Tommy Fury was named after an "ugly duckling" with an "enormous" nose

John Fury has admitted that he came up with the name 'Tommy' for his youngest son after he reminded him of a family member who had an 'enormous' nose.

The former boxer has five children, with Love Island star and top influencer boxer Tommy the youngest of the pack. World heavyweight champion Tyson has a different mother from Tommy, but they remained close in his youth and in a new book releasing this Thursday called 'When Fury Takes Over' their dad has explained how the elder sibling inspired his boxing career.

Tommy has since gone on to become one of Britain's biggest heart-throbs, becoming a massive celebrity with a model fiancee Molly-Mae Hague alongside his multi-millionaire boxing career. But his father claims that it was his massive nose that saw him earn the name Tommy, after a family member.

"Tommy is the youngest of the bunch," John writes. "As a kid he was often consumed with self-doubt, wondering where his life was going, watching everybody else doing well. He never felt like he was making headway. When he was three, I bought him a pair of yellow boxing gloves and some pads.

"‘What do you want for Christmas, Tommy?’ I’d say, and without hesitation, he said, ‘A punchbag and some gloves and headgear, please dad.’ Even though my two youngest sons are from a different mother, the boxing DNA is still inside them. As a boy, Tommy had an enormous nose and I named him after his grandfather Tommy Johnson who had an even bigger conk.

"He was a lovely guy, but all you could focus on when it was coming towards you was the size of his nose! Tommy is the ugly duckling who grew up to be a swan. Nowadays he has the looks of a Hollywood leading man and the manners of a Victorian gent. Tommy idolizes his big brother and is very proud of his achievements in the ring.

"He once asked me, ‘Do you think I’ll ever be anything?’ and I said, ‘Yes I do. But what is it that you would like to be, son?’ He gave me a beaming smile and said, ‘I’d like to be a boxer like Tyson.'"

Tommy has yet to show off his talents at the top level in boxing, but has become a multi-millionaire in the sport through his influencer boxing fights with Jake Paul and KSI. He defeated both men with razor-tight decisions and is likely to be making further major paydays next year.
