Aaron Rodgers was left in awe by a remarkable Jordan Addison touchdown in the Minnesota Vikings' upset win against the San Francisco 49ers on "Monday Night Football".

The rookie wide receiver enjoyed a breakout night at US Bank Stadium. In the absence of superstar pass-catcher Justin Jefferson with a hamstring injury, Addison stepped up and scored two touchdowns, racking up 123 receiving yards in the process.

Addison, the 23rd-overall pick in the NFL Draft in April, inspired a crucial 22-17 win for the Vikings, keeping their postseason hopes alive by improving to 3-4 after a woeful start to the campaign.

The University of Southern California alum produced a series of big plays on Monday night, but none were more important than his 60-yard score in the closing seconds of the first half. Early in the game, Addison had the ball ripped from his hands by 49ers defensive back Charvarius Ward for an interception.

But Addison, 21, returned the favour with 12 seconds remaining before the interval. Kirk Cousins' pass was slightly behind its target and Ward was primed to snatch another interception, but Addison pulled it from his grasp and sauntered into the endzone untouched to put the Vikings 16-7 ahead at the half.

Rodgers, who appeared on ESPN's Manningcast alongside Peyton and Eli Manning during the game, was stunned by the play. "Oh my god, he took it back," Rodgers said with his hands on his head. "What a play. You see something crazy every single week, man. This game is incredible."

New York Jets quarterback Rodgers has been sidelined since his debut for "Gang Green". He ruptured his Achilles in Week 1, just four plays into his Jets career after being traded by the Green Bay Packers in the offseason.

With Zach Wilson under center, the Jets have battled their way to a 3-3 record without the four-time MVP, and he remains intent on returning to the field before the end of the season, which would be much sooner than typically expected for a torn Achilles.

"I'd love to come back this season," he told the Manning brothers. "I've had a couple of injuries over the years and, for me, you always have to set a goal otherwise you go kind of crazy.

"The goal is definitely to come back. There are a lot of factors that go into that but I've got to get to a point where I can protect myself and do what I do.

"To me, throwing on the field was just a way to feel normal. When you're away from the team and you're separated, being on the injured reserve list, anything you can do to make it feel like you're kind of a part of it, whether that's Zooming into a meeting or conversations before the game.

"For me, it was just getting back out there and messing around in the pregame warm-ups. Obviously, to be able to walk out there without crutches and throw the ball around a little bit gave me a jolt and I'm just having a mindset when I rehab every day to hopefully come back at some point."
