Cate Blanchett is said to have got under the skin of her neighbours with workman reportedly drilling 'non-stop' at her £1.6 million Cornish cottage.

The Lord of the Rings star, 54, purchased the Cornish cottage close to the seafront in Mawgan Porth, four miles from Newquay, three years ago. Working with her husband Andrew Upton on the project, they demolished the building and will replace it with a five-bedroom 'eco home'.

Cate and Andrew's home is in an area in Cornwall which has been dubbed Hollywood-on-Sea – with Aquaman star Jason Momoa and 50 Shades of Grey actor Jamie Dornan also have a home in the quiet village. But many locals aren't getting much peace thanks to the work going on.

The noise is said to be making the locals' lives hell it, has been claimed, while residents are said to have had to work around huge lorries delivering supplies to the property. Some residents are reportedly not happy with Cate – saying the noise 'hits' them as soon as they open their windows.

"When you open a window you hear drilling. It makes our lives a misery," one told the Sun while another neighbour, who also didn't want to be named, added: "Tourism’s essential here. That disruption hasn’t made the owner very popular." The couple also own a £5million house in Sussex and she reportedly plans to get to work there, too. Cate hopes to add Victorian-style walled garden to the property so she can use the area to grow her own flowers and vegetables.

But dismissing the suggestions, a statement below from Watershedd, the Architect responsible for the construction on the property, read: "Andrew Upton and Cate Blanchett have received planning consent for a sustainable replacement home in Mawgan Porth. Modest in size, it has been designed sensitively, sustainably and in consultation with the local planning authority to minimise the impact of development on the beautiful environs.

“Throughout the whole process, together with our clients, we have been in regular communication with friendly and accommodating neighbours to ensure that they are aware of our construction program, and even paused work during peak season holidays to minimise anticipated construction noise and disturbances. Our contractor, Noble Construction, is always on hand to speak to people in the local community where they might have questions about the building process."

Before the Oscar-winning star, her husband and her four children purchased the Sussex abode, it was owned by Sherlock Holmes creator Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Doctor Who star Tom Baker. Back in 2015, the building was named Britain’s 13th creepiest abandoned house and there has also been claims it is haunted.

Actress Cate met screenwriter and playwright Andrew Upton in 1996 and at first said she found him arrogant and aloof. But only three weeks after their first date Andrew proposed and, in December 1997, they were married at the scenic Blue Mountains National Park in New South Wales, Australia.

After welcoming three boys, Dashiell, 21, Roman, 18, and Ignatius, 14, Cate and Andrew adopted a newborn baby girl in 2015 and named her Edith. “There are a lot of children out there who don’t have the good fortune that our biological children do, so it’s wonderful to welcome a little girl into our fold – we’re besotted,” Cate said at the time.
