Strictly Come Dancing's Anton Du Beke accused of going 'too far' with racy joke

Strictly Come Dancing judge Anton Du Beke has shocked fans with a rude joke during last night's live show.

The 57-year-old was speaking after same-sex partners Layton Williams and Nikita Kuzmin had performed an incredible samba. But when speaking about one of their dance moves, he made the cheeky quip that he and fellow judge Craig Revel Horwood had performed the same thing naked - in a lift, no less.

Anton quipped: "I said, "Why don't we try that lift?" So he came at me and I said, "Shouldn't you put some clothes on?"' The studio audience were left gasping at the pre-watershed innuendo and the racy moment did not go unnoticed by viewers at home either.

"I'll never get that image of Craig and Anton out of my head now," complained one viewer. "Wow Anton has got a dirty mind," added another.

After his comments, Anton added: "The only reason I'm telling you this is because I have nothing to say about this dance — it was pretty much perfect."

But despite upsetting some fans, viewers were a little more light-hearted about Anton's gag, sharing their thoughts on Twitter (formerly known as X). One wrote: "Still laughing at Anton's joke story about the 'lift' with Craig "he should have put clothes on" - brilliant! Love Anton's humour." Another jibed: "I'll never get rid of that image of Anton and Craig now," while a third supported him, commenting: "Love Anton and his commentary!"

It had been reported that Anton was given a warning by BBC bosses about his raunchy quip, however a spokesperson for the judge has confirmed this was not the case.

Elsewhere, Anton's One Show interview earlier this week turned into a pretty awkward affair, when he accused interviewer Jermaine of cutting him off. Appearing on the BBC chat show on Wednesday night, Anton was there to promote his new book. But while he was speaking to hosts Alex Jones and Jermaine Jenas, things got uncomfortable.

When the professional dancer was talking about the inspiration behind his latest book, he was discussing an old dance teacher of his, who he described as a "dapper" man. The two hosts encouraged him while he was talking, and when he started to end his story, Jermaine started to ask a question, saying: "Anton, you..." but was cut off by Anton, who quipped: "I see you went 'yeah, yeah' then Jermaine as if you wanted to jeer me up a bit. I feel like there is another question coming."

Trying to diffuse the tension, Jermaine said: "There is. It's a nice one though," to which Anton replied: " Fire away I am all yours." Jermaine went on: "Since he has become a judge, he has changed by the way." As they finished the toe-curling interview, Jermaine joked: "I told you it was a nice question". Anton said: "It was a nice question, I felt like you were cutting me off. I know you have got a show to make but I have come a long way."
