The DIY and garden chain Homebase will be closing three of its stores within the next few weeks.

Two stores are set to close next month, with a third planned to shut in December before Christmas. The first two stores planned for closure are the Homebase on Marsh Mills Retail Park in Plymouth and the Southam Road branch in Banbury.

The DIY retailer confirmed the closure plans to PlymouthLive although it could not confirm an exact date it will shut. It's statement read: “We’ll be closing our Plymouth Marsh Mills store in November, an exact date is yet to be confirmed.”

Once the March Mills Retail Park skt closes customers will have to travel 30 miles east to get to the next closest store in Newton Abbot.

Store closing signs went up in the Banbury branch on Wednesday last week to inform customers reports the Oxford Mail. Posters which read that “all stock reduced” and that “everything must go” also went up on the same day.

Following the closure of the store, which opened in the 2000s, the nearest Homebase store will be 14 miles away in Bicester.

It is unknown how many staff are to be impacted by the closures this year. The Mirror has asked Homebase what will happen to the workers at these stores and we will update this article when we know more.

The news of these closures comes after the DIY retailer shut its Newport store in South Wales on September 8.

Homebase has closed 93 stores since it was taken over by Hilco Capital in 2018. Hilco bought the hardware store chain for £1 from Australian firm Wesfarmers, which paid £340million for what has been dubbed one of the “most disastrous takeovers ever seen”.

Before the Hilco takeover, Homebase had around 250 stores at its peak and 12,000 staff. Homebase later returned to profit after it entered a CVA agreement and restructured its business.

Homebase opened its first doors in 1979 and now has around 150 stores across the UK and Ireland.
