Christine McGuinness will soon be seen on the BBC’s Celebrity Antiques Road Trip - and she said there was only one fellow celeb she could imagine herself competing on the series alongside.

The BBC’s Antiques Road Trip sees antiques experts set off around the UK by car in a search for treasures which they then competitively sell at auction to see who can make the most money. The Celebrity version of the show is much the same, but with recognisable stars taking part in the fun.

An episode that is due to air before the end of the year will see model and former The Real Housewives of Cheshire star Christine, 35, taking part. The BBC asked her who she would like to take part in the show with - and she insisted on enlisting Coronation Street star Colson Smith, 25.

Christine and Colson already have a TV game show history as they both featured on ITV show The Games last year where they competed against other celebs in a range of track, field and pool events. Now Christine is delighted to have been reunited with the soap star to find rare and interesting items together.

She told the Daily Star: “When I was asked to take part in Celebrity Antiques Road Trip, they said, ‘Send us a couple of names of people you’d like to do it with’. And I said, ‘There’s only one person I want to do it with and that’s Colson [Smith]’. When we met on The Games, we just spent the whole time laughing. We were the ones sat on the sidelines having a great time. We got on so well.”

Christine went on to explain that she and Colson live close to each other - with him based in Manchester and she over in nearby Cheshire. She called their time on the show a “reunion” and added that she loved getting to spend several days with him on the road and in front of and behind the cameras.

And it wasn’t just pleasing Colson that Christine had in mind when she signed up to take part in the BBC show. She also thought it would be a fun thing for her to do to please her grandmother - who she says is a huge fan of the show.

Christine was famously married to Take Me Out host Paddy McGuinness in 2011 and they share three young children together. However, the couple split in 2022 - announcing in July that year: "We hadn't planned on sharing this publicly until we were ready but after the lack of privacy surrounding our personal life, we feel left with no other option but to clarify.

"A while ago we took the difficult decision to separate but our main focus as always is to continue loving and supporting our children. This was not an easy decision to make but we're moving forward as the best parents we can be for our three beautiful children. We'll always be a loving family, we still have a great relationship and still live happily in our family home together.

"We hope this now draws a line under anymore unwanted and unnecessary intrusion into our private life. Although we work in the public eye we ask kindly if you could respect our wishes for privacy on this matter. We'll be making no further comment."
