A movie star took to the streets this week to help share an important message of respect.

Thomas Turgoose, who rose to fame for his role as Shaun Fields in This Is England, jumped at the chance to be a part of the latest NSPCC campaign with East Marsh Utd, which focuses on teaching youngsters. In what is likely to become a nationwide sweep, Thomas was on hand in Grimsby to help locals as part of the NSPCC, Together for Childhood and North East Lincolnshire Council's “Six Feet of Your Street” campaign.

The initiative invited residents to join Thomas in cleaning an area directly in front of their houses. On the day, the community also took part in a range of fun-filled activities as the organisations worked to get across the important message.

Of the event, Thomas said: "The work that the NSPCC and East Marsh Utd are carrying out in Grimsby is so important to everyone, and most importantly to the children. The Six Feet of Your Street idea will prove vital to teach kids to learn to respect and look after your things.

"It can also teach them the values of looking after each other as a community. Hopefully, this is the start of something special within the East Marsh community and beyond."

Speaking to ITV on the day of the event, Lisa Smith from the NSPCC said: "You can see that all the kids are having such a good day, my little boy included. He's in amongst it all. It's nice to see everybody having fun and you get a real sense of community."

"We know in the shorter term is that life is hard and people are struggling, but that doesn't mean that they don't want the best for their family. What we are hoping is that people will come together and it will create a real neighbourly environment where people look out for one and another."

Future plans by the collective orchestrating Six Feet of Your Street want to use their Grimsby mission to make this a springboard for similar events and make this a nationwide campaign, bringing this to all estates in Britain who are currently facing strife - something Thomas was keen to also see come to fruition.
