Eagle-eyed royal fans 'convinced Harry made Meghan cry at Trooping the Colour'

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s public appearances have been all the more high-profile since their return to the spotlight, with trips including the Invictus Games in Germany and a mental health summit in New York City last week .

Body language experts were quick to analyse the pair and one even told The Mirror that the Duchess of Sussex had made her husband look ‘awkward’ with a ‘failed’ gesture when a man leant in to shake Harry’s hand but Meghan stepped forward to embrace him instead. But it’s far from the first time the royal pair has had a reported misunderstanding in public and the incident led eagle-eyed royal fans to recall a Trooping the Colour parade on June 8, 2019.

The occasion, an annual event to celebrate the late Queen Elizabeth’s birthday, saw royal experts accuse the pair of squabbling on the Buckingham Palace balcony - with some fans even claiming the Duke of Sussex made his wife cry. In video footage, Meghan can be seen standing in front of Harry and turning around to speak to him. But after the couple exchanged words, Meghan turned around with a solemn expression.

Some fans on Twitter reckoned the former Suits actress looked emotional afterwards. One wrote: "She eventually turned around and looked like she was going to start crying. The balcony seemed rather chilly if you ask me." Another compared them to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, adding: "Look at the difference, how relaxed are Kate and William."

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told INSIDER at the time he thought it was an ‘unhappy exchange’. He said: “One of the important characteristics of being royal is to ensure that public appearances go off smoothly. In this instance it certainly seems that there was an unhappy exchange. Let us hope it was not symptomatic of anything other than a misunderstanding, but the Buckingham Palace balcony is not the place to draw attention to such things."
