Britney Spears' haunting Everytime lyrics as she makes apology after abortion

Britney Spears' fans are certain her 2003 song Everytime is about her abortion with ex Justin Timberlake.

The Toxic singer has revealed that she fell pregnant with the pop star's child, but decided to have an abortion as he thought they were "too young" to have a baby. Britney speaks about the difficult time in her memoir, The Woman in Me, in which she lifts the lid on her highly publicised life.

In extracts of the book seen by People Magazine, Britney writes that her then-boyfriend "wasn't happy" when she told him she was pregnant. She claims he said they weren't ready to be parents, which led to her ending the pregnancy.

In the book, which was released worldwide on October 23, Britney writes: "But Justin definitely wasn’t happy about the pregnancy. He said we weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young."

Now fans are certain Everytime was released as a response to his 2002 diss track, Cry Me A River. Lyrics from the song include: "I guess I need you, baby," "seeing a face in her dreams," and a music video showing Britney watching on as a baby is born.

Fans put two and two together, believing that she was hinting at her own heartbreaking procedure. One user wrote: "That explains a lot, why the songs sounds like a lullaby and she says 'My weakness caused you pain, and this song's my sorry', 'I guess I need you baby.'"

A second added: "Oh so britney spears’ everytime wasn’t about justin timberlake but it was about the baby?!' I am completely shook." While others typed: "The meaning of this song changed completely for me," "this is so sad" and "heart is broken, poor Britney."

Britney and Justin started dating when they were 17 and 18 back in 1999. They remained a couple until 2002. Also in the book she pens: "I’m sure people will hate me for this, but I agreed not to have the baby. I don’t know if that was the right decision. If it had been left up to me alone, I never would have done it. And yet Justin was so sure that he didn’t want to be a father."

She added: "To this day, it’s one of the most agonising things I have ever experienced in my life."
