Samsung has led the way so far in foldable smartphones - but a challenger is set to appear

Ever since the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold, Samsung has led the way in foldable devices. But the Korean tech giant's competitors are quickly catching up—first Google with its Pixel Fold, and now with the phone gurus at OnePlus set to give them a run for their money.

The Chinese brand will unveil its latest device, the OnePlus Open, at an event in India tomorrow. The company has already teased the foldable phone in online videos with its president Kinder Liu stating it will 'push the limits of current foldable smartphones'.

There are no official details on the phone's specifications just yet, but rumour has it that the OnePlus Open could give the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold a run for its money.

Teaser videos of the phone show off an impressive device with a huge folding inner screen. Meanwhile, supposed leaked images of the OnePlus Open show it has an array of three camera lenses ranging from 48 to 64 megapixel, as well as a sleek OLED display with a zippy 120Hz refresh rate.

On top of that, the OnePlus Open is likely to receive the latest version of Google's smartphone software, Android 14, which comes with a range of new customisation options and features.

Again, there's no final word on pricing, but OnePlus devices are typically a little cheaper than their Samsung competitors. The company's current flagship device—the OnePlus 11—starts at £729, while Samsung's equivalent the Galaxy S23 starts at £849. Given that the OnePlus Open is likely to be stuffed full of high-end tech, don't expect anything in the budget price range.

To find out for sure, you'll be able to see the full OnePlus Open launch online tomorrow at 3PM UK time or register your interest for the device, preorders of which have already sold out.
