Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods' innovative golf league 'TGL' has completed its playing roster, by adding five more stars to their star-studded list ahead of their launch in January.

McIlroy and Woods' making of TGL came following the threat facing the PGA Tour from their rivals, LIV Golf. The league - that will have a 15-week season - will take place in a custom-built stadium facility, with players competing on a a virtual golf course, equipped with an in-house short game green.

The innovative series will kick-off in the New Year, and ahead of the launch a whole host of PGA Tour stars have committed to competing across six teams.

On Tuesday, TGL announced they had finalised their committed roster for its opening season, with Patrick Cantlay, Wyndham Clark, Lucas Glover, Kevin Kisner and Min Woo Lee all added. American star Cantlay's commitment comes just weeks after he found himself at the centre of controversy at the Ryder Cup.

According to Sky Sports, Cantlay had caused a split within the Team USA dressing room over players not being paid on the way to their defeat against the Europeans. With the drama now behind him, the former FedEx Cup champion has now set his sights on a new team event in TGL.

"The more I talked to the other players involved in TGL, the more I wanted to be a part of the competition," Cantlay said. "This is a great opportunity to showcase golf in a new tech-forward format during primetime. TGL will give us a chance to not only highlight our skills as players, but also showcase a side of ourselves different than what fans traditionally see from us on the course."

The 31-year-old will be joined by one of his Ryder Cup teammates in Clark. The American has enjoyed a breakthrough year on the PGA Tour, having won the U.S. Open at Los Angeles Country Club in the summer. His impressive campaign was rewarded with a place in Zach Johnson's U.S. team, and now he will get to rub shoulders with the big names once again, this time in front of a simulator.

Ahead of his next step, the U.S. Open champion said: "This year has been a bit of a dream for me to have my first PGA Tour win, my first major championship victory and to represent the U.S. in the Ryder Cup. Golf is a humbling game, so it was extremely rewarding to see my hard work translate to success on the course this year. I’m beyond excited to continue the dream by committing and joining this exceptional group of players on TGL."

Cantlay, Clark, Glover, Lee and Kisner will team up with the 19 players already confirmed. A well as Woods and McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Collin Morikawa, Justin Thomas, Keegan Bradley, Matt Fitzpatrick, Shane Lowry, Justin Rose, Adam Scott, Xander Schauffele, Max Homa, Cam Young, Tyrrell Hatton, Tommy Fleetwood, Rickie Fowler, Sahith Theegala, Tom Kim and Billy Horschel will all compete in the stadium-based league.
