The worlds of golf and Formula 1 are set to collide in the form of a landmark Netflix series, which will see stars from both sports face off in a live entertainment first.

With both sports boasting millions of fans worldwide, The Netflix Cup will bring together familiar faces from the streaming platform's previous shows. Following on from hit series such as 'Formula 1: Drive to Survive ' and 'Full Swing', stars will compete a matchplay golf tournament in Las Vegas.

Household names such as golfers Rickie Fowler and Justin Thomas will pair up with famed F1 drivers including Lando Norris and Pierre Gasly. The unique competition will take place at the Wynn Golf Club - which is the the only 18-hole, championship golf course on the Las Vegas Strip.

The genesis behind the idea to bring these two very different sports together is to mark the start of the inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix. A temporary street circuit will see drivers compete on the Las Vegas Strip, with the first race slated to take place on November 18.

With The Netflix Cup streaming live on November 14 at 11pm GMT / 3pm PT / 6pm ET, the event will essentially kick off what is set to be a memorable week. This is the subscription service's latest foray into sports entertainment following on from series including 'Untold', 'Quarterback', and 'Beckham'.

The tournament will operate on the basis of four pairs, each consisting of a Formula 1 driver and a PGA TOUR professional facing off. They will play out a eight-hole match and the top two teams will advance to the final hole, where they will have a chance to win the first title.

The full roster of participants includes an enviable ensemble cast of stars from both sports. From the world of F1, organisers have been able to snare the services of Alex Albon, Pierre Gasly, Lando Norris, and Carlos Sainz, alongside PGA Tour golfers Rickie Fowler, Max Homa, Collin Morikawa and Justin Thomas.

The news of the upcoming tournament in the Nevada city has been welcomed by Gabe Spitzer, who is the Vice President of the Nonfiction Sports department at Netflix. He said: "We love to see how our sports series have brought increased fandom to sports leagues and competitions all over the world.

"The Netflix Cup will take that energy to the next level with global stars from two popular hits competing in our first-ever live sports event."

Steve Weitman, President of Wynn Las Vegas, added: "The Wynn Golf Club has hosted a number of unique matchups over the years and The Netflix Cup will be an incredible addition to the storied history of the course.

"This tournament will showcase a tremendous roster of talent, competing on the only golf course on the Las Vegas Strip, just steps away from the inaugural Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix."
