A top jockey has issued a grovelling apology for an eyebrow-raising remark after he rode a winner.

Multiple big race winner Dean Yendall was asked in a post-race interview what the wind was like after winning the first race at a blustery Swan Hill in Victoria, Australia on Monday. The 49-year-old then joked the wind was so strong it would 'blow the t**s off a prostitute'.

While Yendall went on to ride three winners on the card, he was fined by the stewards for conduct prejudicial to the image of racing. Having reflected on the comment he posted a lengthy apology on his Instagram page, describing what he said as “"completely unacceptable" on Tuesday..

"I wish to express my sincere apologies for the inappropriate and offensive joke that was made during a Racing.com post-race interview at Swan Hill races today," he said.

"I would like to acknowledge that my words were hurtful and offensive to many, and I deeply regret the impact they had. I take full responsibility for my actions and understand that my comments were not only inappropriate but also completely unacceptable. I want to assure you that this does not reflect my true values or beliefs. I am committed to rectifying this situation and making amends.”

Yendall went on to outline what actions he would be taking to demonstrate he means what he says.

He said he would apologise to other jockeys and people in racing as well as his sponsors and management team and seek help.

"Going forward, I will exercise better judgment and sensitivity in my public appearances and interactions,” he said. "I am open to feedback from the community and will actively engage in constructive dialogue to learn from this experience.

"I understand that trust needs to be rebuilt, and I am fully committed to doing the necessary work to regain the respect and trust of those who were hurt by my actions. I am determined to make amends and ensure that such a situation does not happen again.”
