The draw for the first round of the 2023-24 FA Cup will see a host of big names in the Football League in the hat.

Manchester City beat their fiercest rivals Manchester United in May to lift the trophy and within a matter of months, the qualifying rounds of the competition got underway.

Non-league sides up and down the country have been action and it is now time for the first round proper with teams in League One and Two entering the fray.

Among the sides in the hat are Wigan, who lifted the trophy after beating Manchester City 10 years ago, and League One leaders and 2008 winners Portsmouth.

The likes of Bolton, Derby and Reading will also be out to avoid an upset if they are drawn to take on one of the many non-league sides still in the competition.

Look out for Cray Valley Paper Mills

Definitely the best name in the draw, Greenwich-based Cray Valley Paper Mills are in the hat after beating Enfield Town 5-2 yesterday.

The Millers play in the eighth tier and alongside Kentish duo Ramsgate and Sheppey United are joint-lowest ranked sides left in the competition.

Who's in the hat?

As mentioned, League One and Two clubs are in the mix and that includes two winners from the last 15 years in Portsmouth and Wigan.

The Latics famously beat Manchester City at Wembley in 2013 while Nwankwo Kanu scored the only goal as Pompey lifted the trophy in 2008.

They will be joined by the likes of Derby, Bolton and Wrexham, who are on the rise under their Hollywood owners in League Two.

The lowest ranked sides left in the competition all come from the Isthmian League South East division, with Ramsgate, Cray Valley and Sheppey United all dreaming of a glamour tie.

Welcome

It is time for the first round draw for the 2023-24 FA Cup.

Manchester City won the famous competition back in May after they edged out rivals Manchester United on their way to a historic treble.

The Premier League champions will enter the fray in the third round alongside the rest of the top flight and Championship clubs but this is the stage for League One and Two sides to make their mark.

There are a number of former winners in the hat while a host of non-league clubs will be eyeing an upset, and a hefty boost to their finances, with clubs picking up ?40,000 from the prize fund.
