UFC legend Conor McGregor failed to show up for Dillon Danis’ boxing fight against Logan Paul.

Former two-weight world champion McGregor is a longtime teammate of Danis as they first worked together before his rematch against Nate Diaz in 2016. Danis has remained a staple of McGregor’s training camps since that fight and is also expected to help the Irishman when he makes his eventual UFC return next year.

Danis sparred with McGregor in July before he was announced the opponent for Paul on the Misfits Boxing Prime card. McGregor was expected to be in attendance at the Manchester Arena to watch Danis’ boxing debut from ringside, but he failed to show up. McGregor did wish Danis luck on the fight as they spoke on FaceTime just hours before he made the walk.

The Irishman backed Danis to win when speaking with Mirror Fignting at an event to promote his Forged Irish Stout drink earlier this month. “Dillon’s going to win,” McGregor said. “He had the baby, we didn’t get to train together. So, I don’t know the ins and outs. I know he’s doing well, he’s still training and he’s going to go for it. He’s had a baby, he had a new baby so I tried to bring him out. Dillon’s good.”

Danis’ fight against Paul marks his first return in combat sports in four years after battling a string of knee injuries. The Bellator MMA star was supposed to fight KSI in January but pulled out of the fight due to being underprepared.

Danis insisted McGregor has helped him throughout training camp despite the two not meeting up as much they would have liked. "He talks to me every day. On the mental side he sends me voice notes, videos and certain things that I should do. He's always there for me even if we're not there physically, mentally we talk every single day.

"For the baby thing it was literally when he was being born and I had the press conference and then he was in France it was just a lot of travel. We trained for almost two months before that in New York boxing every day so we're always training together.”
